The film was produced on a budget of 26 CAD. Director Samuel Lewis focuses on making "funny things feel uncomfortable and uncomfortable things funny," blending sketch comedy and crime drama. Sammy and Ben collectively won 'Best Actor' at the Digi60 film festival in Ottawa for their performances in Crimes of Passion.

In 2013, teenagers Alice and Helena create a fake profile of a sixteen-year-old boy on a social network to spy on their classmates. What starts as mere curiosity spirals out of control when Raquel, the mother of Matheus — Helena’s crush — begins interacting with the profile, unaware that she is talking to a teenage girl. While Helena sees the situation as an opportunity to generate content for her YouTube channel, Alice experiences an internal struggle as she discovers her feelings for the older woman. When the exchanged messages take an unexpected turn, Helena decides to publicly expose Raquel, also revealing Alice’s secret.
